Outlook security check
Short answer
Start with the Microsoft Account recent-activity view, then inspect Outlook forwarding, rules, connected accounts and automatic replies.
What you need to know
Trace Microsoft Account activity and mailbox rules.
-
Personal account versus work or school
This route concerns a personal Microsoft account and Outlook.com. Organization-managed Outlook can have policies and administrator controls; use its authorized help channel instead of assuming personal-account instructions apply.
-
Device health comes before new credentials
Microsoft’s compromised-account guide recommends checking the PC for malware before changing its password, then inspecting connected accounts, forwarding and automatic replies. A clean-looking Inbox is not the same as reviewing these controls.
Check, act, and the limit
-
Start by checking
Check which events were successful rather than counting failed attempts.
-
Then act
Report unexplained access, update security details and remove mailbox rules you did not create.
-
Know the limit
Work and school Outlook accounts may be managed by an administrator.
