Sign out of email everywhere
Short answer
A password change may not be the whole response. Use the provider’s session or sign-out control, then remove unknown applications and mailbox forwarding paths.
What you need to know
Close sessions after a suspected incident.
-
Microsoft timing and exception
Microsoft states that its sign-out-everywhere action may take up to 24 hours and excludes an Xbox console. This is a Microsoft rule, not a deadline for every email provider. Use the account’s current instructions when checking the result.
-
What signing out does not settle
A session action does not prove that previously copied mail disappeared from elsewhere. Review app connections, delegation and mailbox forwarding separately. Avoid assuming one global sign-out button revokes every kind of permission.
Check, act, and the limit
-
Start by checking
Keep a trusted device available before ending sessions.
-
Then act
Use the provider’s sign-out action and verify that your own devices need a fresh sign-in.
-
Know the limit
Provider-wide sign-out timing and exceptions vary.
